Week Beginning 7.9.20

We have completed our second week in Caterpillar class and what a week it’s been!

We have started to read The Colour Monster in class.  The children have really enjoyed the story about the monster who feels all jumbled up, muddled and confused until a friend helps him identify and sort his emotions into different coloured jars.  We have all written a sentence describing what makes us feel happy and have also written a sentence in our Feelings Diary, explaining why we feel a certain emotion.

When the children come into the classroom they are placing their photograph next to the colour monster that best represents their feelings that morning.  We are encouraging them to describe their emotions and are supporting them with developing strategies if they feel sad, angry, confused or fearful about something.  The children have really enjoyed doing this each day!

We have also been sorting and counting objects and it has been fascinating to see how different children have placed objects in different groups.  This sorting has also continued in Continuous Provision, with children choosing to use objects from the Maths and Loose Parts area to sort.

The Creative Area has again been very popular this week, and lots of children have used a colour monster template to decorate, reflecting the way they are feeling.

Our first PE session was a success too!  We got on our ‘BMX bikes’ and travelled down different tracks.  Some were narrow (sidestepping), some were bumpy (high knees) and some were full of puddles (zig-zagging!). Our focus during this session was on listening and following instructions and all of the children were able to describe what they were confident in doing and what they found challenging.

Science with Miss Lait looked so much fun and she has posted an activity that you can all try at home.

I hope that you all have a lovely weekend together and come back refreshed on Monday, ready for another busy but fun week!

Our PE sessions are Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  Please bring PE kits in with you both days, children will wear their PE kits home.

Best wishes,

Miss Price β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘πŸ»
